So I'm driving home tonight, going maybe 40 MPH. Drive over a little bump in the road, some kind of construction ditch that's been covered with a metal sheet or something. Nothing major, it's the same as lots of other little bumps we drive over all the time. But, my main screen pops up a message -"service airbag!". It only lasts for 3-5 seconds, then goes away. The car is only at around 40K miles, and obviously no airbags deployed or anything like that. No sign of the message since then - tried restarting it a few times to see if it might pop up again, but no.

Is my car losing its mind?

Your car is just trying to see if you are paying attention to it 8^) Seriously, I haven't a clue... perhaps a loose connection.... or maybe the planets were aligned with the software and... Bingo, for a very brief moment. Best thing to do IMO is to keep driving and remind your car how much you like her 8^D

Probably a loose wire. But good luck finding where :)
Worst case it's the one up in the airbag compartment (but which one of 10?!) and much harder to get to.
