I'm wondering how big of a compressed air tank can I bury in my yard? As for compressors, check out the California air compressors. I used to have a Coleman that was super noisy. I picked up a California Air air compressor at Home Depot that is so quiet my wife on longer jumps in fear when it turns on. Alas, I would think that instead of glide DC to AC to to a standard air compressor, it might be better to go DC directly to a DC air compressor to air pressure, then convert that pressure to AC.

This is a fantastic idea with great long term potential. Personally I like this idea better than battery storage.

We have quite a bit of wind and solar here in Ontario, Canada. We have a company NRStor that is using salt caverns for compressed air energy storage as well.

Toronto Hydro also has a small expandable 0.7MW compressed air storage project that has been up and running since Nov 2015.
