I found this on my windshield today. Apparently some mall cop was upset that I *wasn't* parked in the EV parking spot. (I was parked in the stall next to it.)

Electric cars aren't allowed to park in non-EV stalls any longer?

You can see the thought process -- ICE vehicles can't park in spots reserved for electric cars so, logically, electric cars can't park in spots not designated for electric cars. Would make sense but for the fact it doesn't. Very much like saying that a car with a handicap sticker could only park in a handicap space. Funny.

I imagine someone clueless complained. It makes sense, that someone might think that by not using the spot you are taking up one of the ICE spots that only they can use. However, they are probably not aware that those should really be called charging spots, and only charging vehicles should park there. One of those situations it would be nice to talk to the person face to face. Also, doesn't help the parking attendants are sort of clueless.

That's just as funny as the picture my cousin sent to me while on vacation of a bunch of empty handicapped motorcycle parking spots that some city had required.

That is laughably sad. That person isn't even qualified to work parking enforcement at a mall. Wow lol

Even if you had the talk, you might not convince him if he is firm in his thinking that EV's park there and ICE vehicles park over there.

The solution for that scenario would be to simply show him your gas tank and tell him the Volt goes both ways and can park in either spot.

This is discrimination! Trying to make EVs park in only EV spots. Sure fits the current state of affairs though.

But you probably got that because you were parked in the space next to the EV space AND using the free charging station? (and over two hours?) I do this at the Otay Ranch volta station a couple times a month. I get there early, then I leave a note that a pure EV is welcome to unplug my Volt.

I noticed when parking in a charging spot at City Hall recently the careful wording of the sign. Something to the effect of: "Parking for Charging Electric Vehicles only". I was only there for a half hour and it happened to be the only open spot in the garage, so I was good on both counts.

The way I read the ticket, it looks like he is saying you were in an electric spot and you were not supposed to be in an electric spot. Maybe because he didn't recognize your car is electric. If that is the case, I'd say it is very encouraging that he was trying to enforce the charging spot.

Was it plugged in? If not, it actually was in violation of CA state law...

Come on, people. It's all there in the original post: OP was parked in the space *next to* the ev charging space. There is no other way to look at this.

LOL. That'd blow the other driver's mind. I'll have to remember that one. "My Volt goes both ways." ;-)
