Well, you do get 5 years of the basic OnStar when you buy the car (or 3 if used). Do you want it in perpetuity?Requiring a monthly fee for Onstar to use a simple RemoteLink app is truly a gouge to the customer. Just ridiculous and not appreciated. Would recommend that decision be seriously reconsidered.
Yes, you have basic for 5 years.5 Years?? I have a 2017 Premier and OnStar has already contacted me advising that my free subscription (Guidance), expires in March. Do I have free basic service after that?? Just wondering.....
Yes, they give you everything for free for a few months to get you hooked. I am not sure if you have to sin up for the basic, or if switch happens automatically. On my used Volt, when I activated my 3 year basic plan it was the full plan for a month or so, now I just have basic App controls (key fob).5 Years?? I have a 2017 Premier and OnStar has already contacted me advising that my free subscription (Guidance), expires in March. Do I have free basic service after that?? Just wondering.....
It is free for this functionality, you're not being gouged.Requiring a monthly fee for Onstar to use a simple RemoteLink app is truly a gouge to the customer. Just ridiculous and not appreciated. Would recommend that decision be seriously reconsidered.
Basic Guidance plan is for 3 years, per the Chevrolet website. See below. Only thing that runs out in 3 months is the Wifi/4G LTE I think.5 Years?? Per Chevrolet's Volt website:New Volts get 3 or 5 years onstar free. Not sure if it is the same for 2017 but someone that has it will know.
So to the OP, after your 3 months of free Onstar "everything" runs out, you still get the OnStar Guidance plan for 3 years, and the basic service free for 5 years that lets you do all the key fob functions from your phone with RemoteLink/MyChevrolet.The standard OnStar Basic Plan† keeps you connected for five years and includes select features of the RemoteLink mobile app as well as limited OnStar services, like Advanced Diagnostics† and dealer Maintenance Notification to help you schedule service.
...
- Remotely start your vehicle, lock/unlock your doors, honk your horn and flash your lights.
- Send destinations to your Chevrolet MyLink navigation screen
3 years of the OnStar Guidance Plan† (Shown under the "Chevrolet Complete Care" on the Volt's webpage)
No. It's three years. Just got off the phone with OnStar and they told me my newly bought model 2014 service is expired. No RemoteLink access unless I pay for at least the basic at $20/mo! Seriously? $20/mo for a basic app? Unbelievable gouge.Yes, you have basic for 5 years.
Yes. "Keyfob" functions are lock/unlock. No data, no charge status, etc. Lock/unlock....great.It is free for this functionality, you're not being gouged.

Pretty sure the stuff that runs out after 3 months is the Wifi and 4G LTE, for example.
OnStar provides a service, that service costs money. If you would like to use the service, feel free to pay for the service. Not sure what the issue is here?Requiring a monthly fee for Onstar to use a simple RemoteLink app is truly a gouge to the customer. Just ridiculous and not appreciated. "The standard OnStar Basic Plan† keeps you connected for five years" .....Yes, for a monthly fee. Just got that from the OnStar repIt is free for this functionality, you're not being gouged.

You forgot remote start, just like most every other new vehicle out there.Yes. "Keyfob" functions are lock/unlock. No data, no charge status, etc. Lock/unlock....great.
"MyChevrolet" app is horrible and needed constant restart. The OnStar rep admitted it was very buggy. I went back to RemoteLink. Of course that is currently out without the feeNew Volts get 3 or 5 years onstar free. Not sure if it is the same for 2017 but someone that has it will know.
RemoteLink app is discontinued. MyChevrolet app is the replacement.
Even if Onstar free runs out the basic function is still available for free that allows the KeyFob apps to use on your devices.
I understand business. I run several. Point is, you have a simple app that's cheaper that throwing in a tank of gas at pickup, yet you're charging an unusual amount. That's gouging. I can understand selling it for ..$20, whatever. But to ask a min of $240/yr for a tool that's near nothing to GM is the definition of a gouge.OnStar provides a service, that service costs money. If you would like to use the service, feel free to pay for the service. Not sure what the issue is here?
Do you provide your services for free runway1?

Purchasing a '14 you got 3 years of the full suite and an additional 2 of the basic. Take Philip up on his offer to help.No. It's three years.
