Just found out that the remote start on the app is only available for the first 5 years of your vehicles life...what kind crap is that... Now they want me to pay $10 a month for OnStar to access. Sorry it's not worth that much $...maybe if it was $10/ year.
Am I missing something or is that really the deal? I'm not happy about that.

That is exactly the deal.

Try using the fob instead. They reach AMAZINGLY far. Mine will start the car through two floors of steel-reinforced concrete.

It won't work from half a mile.

Supposedly you can bargain the Onstar squirrels down to something like $7 or $8 per month. I'd call and ask them how much it is for just the remote start plan, and whatever they tell you, keep telling them that's too expensive and thank them for their time. My guess is that they'll keep on trying to keep you on the line by enticing you with a lower rate.

(Note I haven't done this because even $7 is too much for me, and I don't think I could get them down to the $3 I'd be willing to pay. But this is how I'd do it if I were OK with $7 or $8.)

Darn :) now I want to start a thread on how to make the FOB work out to a distance of 1/2 a mile.

I must have an old Pringles can around here - haha

I think my original deal was 3 years ?

From the web (unmute the video at top of the article page after the ad runs):
The crazy way you can extend the range of your car key fob

This one sounds so preposterous, it will surely strike you as nonsense — but it really works.

When you hold your car’s remote control against your head, you can lock and unlock your doors from much farther away. Depending on the car model and your body composition, you may gain as much as 90 additional feet of range (about six car lengths).

When this tip is passed around online, people usually suggest holding the fob under your chin. But you’ll probably find that something fleshy, like your cheek, works better than something bony.

That’s because behind the scenes — or, rather, inside the scenes — the fluids of your head act as a conductor. Your body becomes part of the antenna — a much bigger one. If you’re old enough to remember when TV sets had "rabbit ears" antennas, you may recall that you sometimes got the clearest picture when you were touching the antenna. Same principle here.

Extend your key fob’s wireless range. Now if only the same thing worked for extending the range of our cellphones…

$10 a month is much cheaper than any cellular based after market remote start. You also get additional vehicle info with that subscription as well.

I paid a year in advance and it worked out to $7.49 a month. It’s worth it to me just for preconditioning this time of year. You just tell OnStar it’s too expensive and get them to transfer you to the loyalty department.

You are absolutely correct. I've been paying a whopping $4.99 a month subscription for my remote plan. :sneaky:
