I have 2075 miles on my Volt and today on the way to work I had the CEL come on! OnStar says it's an emissions problem. Geeez, already. Considering I haven't used the ICE very much I'm not happy.......

What was the code. If its serious they would have said to stop driving the vehicle, if not they usually tell you to make an appointment within 7 days.

I had an error code on my 2017 last fall, and it went away and never came back before I could book an appointment.

Be glad it's only an emissions problem and still driveable! My car went totally dead 3 hours from my house at 4500 miles because of a quality control defect.

Yeah, that WOULD suck. Sorry to hear that. Hope it got taken care of with no further problems
It did...GM customer service handled it far better than I initially expected

Hope your issue ends up being simple! :p

OnStar says make appointment within 7 days, and doesn't providea code. Just says is the emissions system. Will see if it's still there after work.
It may be that the light goes away after 3 vehicle on/off cycles and never occurs again. That would save you a trip to the dealer, though I would make sure they document that the light occurred and what OnStar said the code was. By the way, you can ask OnStar for the DTC and they should be able to give you a specific number (as opposed to just saying "Emissions problem")

I'm not sure if emission codes clear automatically. My dad's MKZ hybrid got a CEL a while back but was working fine, so I hooked up my reader and it was an emissions-related code stating that an evaporative leak was detected. It persisted for at least a week of daily commuting, but after I manually cleared it, it never came back.

could be - reset the cap and after a few car power cycles it may reset

I had that problem a few times when not using much gas for 1/2 a year and only 2 gal in the tank.

and get the Code - We can't tell you why your corn is not growing with out a soil sample.

Yeah, cap was the first thing I checked. Well, here's the deal.....brought it in and they hooked it up. According to my dealer, it is associated with the 17058 recall. According to GM, the fix did not work and they are now working on it. There is no problem driving the car as they cleared the code. They will let me know when there is a fix. Oh joy

Sorry to hear about this dmatt, nobody wants or needs to have that happen with a new car. If you look at the frame of the car with the driver door open, you'll see a plate which has your build date, month and year.

Can you please let us know what that date is?

If you are that mad about a CEL on your 2017, imagine how pissed I was when the high voltage fuse blew on my 2017 at 4,000 miles, and then the 12V system failed on me at 8,000 miles leaving me stranded on the side of the road. My 2017 already has about 1 month of "shop time" in the (almost) 1 year i've had it.

Just saying -- CEL isn't the end of the world in the grand scheme of things.

I understand that you have had a terrible experience with your purchase and I'm not trying to compare to anyone. However, After spending almost $40K on a car I expect it to perform without problems for a reasonable time....as I'm sure you do. This is my 2nd GM product, I traded in my 2015 Chevy Colorado Z71 4x4 and it had brake issues and they had to replace the rear springs. I don't think it's too much to ask that I not need to bring a brand new car in for a problem within 2 weeks of owning it......especially since they don't have a fix for the problem yet.

Pretty sure this is covered under recent recall. Just a reprogram in the ECU I believe. Check with the dealer.

Yup, it is. However, according to the dealer, the recall didn't resolve the problem and GM is working on a solution. All they can do right now is reset the code and wait for GM to release the new software update.
