Amendment to the "run out the window" line item: get a cheap pool noodle from the dollar store and score it once lengthwise , or a stick of foam pipe insulation that already has the score in it. Run the cord through the open window, attach a piece of the noodle or insulation cut to length, and snug up the window enough to make it rain resistant, but not enough to pinch the cord any.
