IF/When they cancel the VOLT (as now announced as part of a 6 model deletion to head off a current sales slump)....20% discounts won't be enough to get any interest! They will have to sell them up to 40+% off or more and then the market value will plummet like all dying models like these have!! This doesn't even account for the loss of TAX WRITEOFFS COMING SOON!!
Remember GM's Great 8-6-4 engineering marvel??? This move could exceed that one! :))
So DO NOT BUY a VOLT! ......ONLY LEASE...then GMAC TAKES THE Massive LOSSES for GM'S stupidity and they only hurt themselves...not the consumer again.

Step away from the ledge...

One fake news article suggests GM MIGHT eliminate the Volt in 2022 and this is your reaction?

The article suggests the Gen 3 Volt would be a crossover, something many, many here have asked and pleaded for. For them, this is good news.

Did you have the same um, reaction, to the news of a Gen 2 Volt?

Who pissed in your Wheaties this morning? US automotive sales trends show that SUVs and Crossovers are selling more and more at the expense of cars. Moving the Voltec drivetrain into these platforms is definitely the way to go.

The Federal Tax Credit will most likely be a thing of the past for GM by the end of 2018. This signals the end of the indirect subsidy they get from Uncle Sam on every Volt sold, so GM will have to move this drivetrain into better selling vehicles if they don't want to throw away their investment and get caught flat-footed when the next Democratic Congress & President put the CAFE numbers back to where the last ones had them.

I for one, would never bet against Mary Barra.

Um, wait. GMAC takes losses from leasing? You are sorely mistaken. Car companies make a fortune from leasing as it gets people into cars they cannot afford sooner than they can afford them and leaves leassors in a position to do it over and over and over again every 3 years for the rest of their lives.

The way to punish GM is for everyone to buy a competitor's car and send their profits tumbling like poor Mitsubishi (dead last in the Japanese car manufacturers). But it's an overreaction to go postal on GM just from a rumor news article. Recall a few years ago how a bunch of vette owners were all up in arms about the new vette stingray with different tail lights. I think they eventually got over it. New vettes are still selling as far as I can tell.

I, too, am hoping for the FNR-X to become reality. Hopefully by 2020 when my lease is up.
Good luck. A coworker had a gen1 volt lease and gen2 volt did not arrive in time for him to get one as the g1 lease was up. I told him to buy a beater icer and drive it until the g2 was available, but he couldn't wait, bought a used g1, and now forever laments not waiting. Don't get forced into a certain timeframe. Wait for the right car and right deal.

By the time Gen iii is out gas will be $5 a gallon and real estate will have imploded again.

So the SUV will be just in time for the SUV market to implode.

Which would put a Voltec based SUV very, very sellable.

GM is too chicken to build a VOLT CUV that looks as good as this one......instead it will come out looking like a shoe.....
Or the new Toyota CUV abomination... the C-HR

Yet another reason not to lease.

My story is similar to your coworkr: leased a 2012, turned it in in March 2015, lusted for the 2016 but couldn't wait and in June 2015 I bought a new 2014 with 21 miles on the odometer. I'm really happy owning a Gen 1 with its extremely comfortable seats, and QC was top drawer in 2014.

I really can't argue with that, but there are good looking shoes.

Perhaps one needs to have a sense for how to dress it.
Speaking of shoes, I get lots of comments in parking lots about mine. I'm a big fan on how custom wheels can make your car pop compared to the OEM wheels.

If they turn the Volt into a crossover, I'll be ever so glad that I bought my 2017 before they ruined it. And that picture of a crossover? Somebody took a hit with Toyota's ugly stick on that one. Again, if that's the trend, I'll be glad to miss it.

Look at the FNR-X next to the Toyota C-HR. Toyota still reigns supreme on the ugliness scale. Lexus come it at a close second

For the price the Volt has the most technology of any car you can buy. The 2016-17 Volt beats the Corolla and Civic in avg. EPA mpg, the Volt has the ability to operate on 100% pure electric to top speed, until the battery is depleted, on board a 101 HP direct injection fuel efficient engine will keep you motoring a long for well over 300 miles. With a full battery you can just push a button and run on gasoline or electric, your choice. Also, it is a nice looking car, sorry Prius....

So why would GM even think about cutting the Volt off their product list?
