Neat, thank you both for the heads up:This is awesome. If you have a phone with 3d touch, you can firmly press the app icon to jump straight to lock, unlock, and remote start/stop. If you have the watch, you can get all the remote commands. Swipe to the side and you can start navigating back to your car. You can also add it to your watch face as one of the complications, but sadly it's just the chevy logo. I was hoping for charge percent or ev miles or something. But hey, a chevy logo I can tap to quickly get at the remote start button is great.
Now if only apple would expand siri enough for me to shout at my wrist "hey siri, start my car"
I believe with the latest MyChevrolet App you can store the PIN code in the app and then you don't have to enter the PIN to use the remote start from the watch. This is awesome. Unless I've misunderstood something about the Apple Watch from the very beginning....it needs an accompanying iPhone for it's cellular connection (and therefore connectivity), no?Sweet.....just installed it to my watch and it works great. No more dragging my phone and/or key fob along when I don't want them on me. Lock them in the car and unlock with my watch when I get back. Thats awesome
But if the fob is in the car, can't anyone just walk up and unlock the car with the exterior handle button?Park the car at the trail head, lock the fob and iPhone in the car.
If the fob was in the rear storage area it might be out of range but then the trunk release might still operate. You could remove the battery from the fob or place the fob in a foil or mesh lined case that would shield the signal, then you would be fully reliant on the phone being charged and working. You could use the MyChevrolet app from the Apple Watch to unlock the Volt when you returned. You could also use the Apple Watch to communicate with Onstar via phone to unlock the car if you know the PIN. (My Ford Fusion had a keypad on the driver's door and a chipped ignition key and I didn't have to deal with any of these issues.)But if the fob is in the car, can't anyone just walk up and unlock the car with the exterior handle button?
Since the Apple Watch ultimately relies on the paired iPhone for its connectivity I would be very wary about that idea – if the watch fails to reconnect properly upon your return, your iPhone battery dies, or the phone gets too hot and goes into overheat mode (very common when you leave it in a hot car), you may find yourself locked out with the keys/fob and your phone locked inside. And no way to even call or text someone for help.I meant like when I go for a trail run away from home. Park the car at the trail head, lock the fob and iPhone in the car. Go for my run and I can unlock the car with my watch when I get back to the car.
Would you wear the Apple Watch while surfing and trust that the watch would still be attached to your wrist and working when you exit the surf?Guess I'll just have to live life on the edge
Anything and everything can happen, but if you didn't weigh your risks, you'd worry about everything and never do anything.Since the Apple Watch ultimately relies on the paired iPhone for its connectivity I would be very wary about that idea – if the watch fails to reconnect properly upon your return, your iPhone battery dies, or the phone gets too hot and goes into overheat mode (very common when you leave it in a hot car), you may find yourself locked out with the keys/fob and your phone locked inside. Sorry, I don't surf....land locked. But I have worn it jet skiing, kayaking, and swimming in fresh water lakes/rivers many times. I never give it a 2nd thought. I still use the original band included with the watch, but there are plenty of more secure options for cheap if you are concerned about losing it. I wouldn't be concerned about water proof aspect. Mine is a first generation I've had since launch day and its been rock solid. Haven't even scratched it yet.....and thats amazing because I am brutal on watch faces.Would you wear the Apple Watch while surfing and trust that the watch would still be attached to your wrist and working when you exit the surf?
Responding to myself. I rebooted the iphone and watch and now it is working. Go Figure. It wasnt ever listed in the watch app anywhere.I have updated the mychevrolet app on my phone, and even uninstalled and reinstalled and I still dont see it on my watch. it is no where to be found in the watch app on my phone to install it. I feel like I am missing something simple but alas no clue. Touch ID and the 3d touch works .
