The assemby line wasn't that "idle". They have assembled many Bolts before for internal use, limited external exhibition , crash tests (NHTSA and IIHS), and engineering shakedowns (beta test levels). GM must have started the final production in October, but all the units must pass their Quality Control tests, which can be weeks per vehicle.

Like always, words are very subjective, even "production"...They were probably "producing Bolts" months before but they were not the "production Bolt" as in ones that will be going to customers whether that's commercial or private sales...It would appear GM has confirmed it's now producing Bolts that will go to customers...

Yup. And if you go to the source AP article and click on "more photos," you'll see a couple pics of them lifting the battery into place and picture of the engine and suspension. I saw the article yesterday but had some incorrect information in it so didn't want to post. Glad to see it has started. There will be lots of people excited about the news.

Damn, it's the spark EV all over again. Why doesn't the rest of the US get any love? Well, my only condolence is that I wasn't planning on buying a bolt anyway. I had a Tesla model 3 reservation which I later cancelled. My next car is going to be much bigger, probably a Subyukonade unless someone else builds a phev truck/SUV that can tow (and regular folks can buy...via won't sell me their silverado).
