Not sure if this is the correct place to post this, but I have been using the Plugless wireless charging system outside in the elements for a year now. Have had leaves, 8" snow, and other items on the pad...outside. To date, no problems, and pleased with the performance. It is quite nice to not have to plug in.

Just wanted to offer an update for other members now that I have some long term experience with this unit.

My wife pulled in over the pad...the wall pad with the arrows guided her even though there was snow on the ground. I did not pay attention whether the snow was melting or not? Good question, I will pay attention if we have snow again.

Did charging cause that 8" of snow to melt and refreeze on the pad?

since mine can barely manage to charge in my garage, that surprises me.
Heya Peevee - (Steve with Plugless - i've DM'ed and replied to a previous string) have you contacted customer care about any issues you are having? If not, Leanne and team work really hard at trouble shooting. 800.799.8290 or email [email protected]. Feel free to contact me directly should you want. (see signature below or look at your GM-Volt.com inbox).

Yep.
Over it. I plug in to my 3 year old voltec charger wired for 240 because it charges RELIABLY.

[disclosure - I work for Plugless] - the pad doesn't get that warm that it rapidly melts snow. For example this video of our company Volt is after a full day of charging the day before: https://www.pluglesspower.com/learn/plugless-snow/

Charge on!
Thanks for the vid Steve. That's no 8" of snow, but still good to see it operating outside in winter.

Could you please address Norton's question on efficiency?

Personally I would need to know the minimum efficiency before considering one. It would also be good to know if there is any way of increasing it by raising the pad on a perfectly flat surface like a garage floor.

^ Wow.... 12% loss, plus the cost of the system, plus the cost of the installation at the home and on the car.

I think plugging in manually is worth that dreaded (?) 10 seconds for plugging, then unplugging.
Maybe I'm a cheap, old school EV driver....:)

Peevee - as you know, we are available for troubleshooting by phone and email and will troubleshoot when it is best for your schedule. We want to go to great lengths to make sure your system works reliably as it does Scott and all of our customers. I am sorry to see you have stopped the troubleshooting process. I am sending you a direct message through GM-Volt.com with information on how we want to escalate this case. It is important to us that we come to a reasonable resolution. Charge on!

Hellsop got it right - but that is Plugless is roughly 7% less than level 1 corded charging and about 12% less than level 2 corded charging. That roughly translates to about $.28 to $.33 per charge extra depending on a bunch of factors. Plugless is designed to stay stationary on the parking surface so moving it up (or down) will not work. Charge on!

Quick info, the cost of installation on your car is built into the price of Plugless (we arrange and pay for installation) and the cost of installation at home is, like any other level 2 charger, dependent on whether or not you have the electrical to support higher power charger. It is possible, if you charge indoors and already have a dedicated 30A circuit and a NEMA 6-30R (receptacle) then the house-side install would likely be $0. The added cost to the electrical bill is roughly $.28 to $.33 per day.

But totally understand, if you are a hypermilier (a grateful planet thanks you) then Plugless premium wireless charging is likely not for you. However our customers do not come to us to save 10 seconds here and there (and we don't sell to that). Some like the overall convenience of course (they will call it their personal valet etc.) others like the latest and futuristic tech also. Some have tight garages. charge outdoors or have physical limitations - or are just plain forgetful (and in that case Plugless actually ups all-electric miles). Wireless EV charging is being pursuit be nearly all (if not all) car manufacturers with EV programs - so someday in the future, you will likely charge wirelessly and when you do - think of us well. Charge on!

I was pleasantly surprised that the 120V loss is only %7, but of course I would prefer to see it at <5%.
Another question I have is whether it adds to the Gen 2 Volt's 13 hour full charge time?

I've been considering one of these for a while now. My two problems are:
1. My daughter lost her job and stores her stuff in my garage and her kids in my spare bedrooms.
2. See #1. I don't have the money right now.

My reasons for wanting Plugless:
1. No, not to save the 10 seconds to plug in my GE.
2. Cool factor.
3. Park and charge rather than park, plug, charge, unplug.
4. Cool factor.
5. Can't forget to plug in.
6. Cool factor.

Nice to know that outside install works so well. I might do that instead of constantly fighting for my own garage.

My grand calls my GE the 'Gas station in Poppy's garage'. lol.

ii researched plugless power and I found that you have to take your volt to your chevy dealer to have them attach some required equipment behind the charging port, and a box attached underneath the ice compartment so when you drive over the plate in your carport or garage, your volt can be charged by wifi
also you lose some power as charging it is only using 3.3 kwh
a clipper creek L2 unit is half as expensive, and more functional, not to mention more bang for your buck
