The left rear brake makes a clunk sound when it's fully engaged. I've had it fixed 2 times at the dealer (loving the CPO warranty). Each time they put some shim in there and the clunk goes away for about 3 weeks. Anyone have a premanent fix for this same issue?

No permanent one. Even "replace the cable and sleeve" didn't work for more than a couple month. At that point, I just decided that since it only went *pop* about one time in four anyway and never seemed to interfere with the set of the brake (that is, it always popped, if it was gonna pop, while the motor was still setting the brake the first time) that I could just live with it.

I didn't know that they're not supposed to do that. I have a 2013 and 2015 and they both do that. I test drove a new 2016 and it did it too.

I never use the parking brake on my 2014 Volt. So..... is that a bad thing?? I thought placing the shift knob in park is sufficient for all but serious inclines.

My clunk was the actual brake hardware, not the EPB or cables.
Make sure your brakes are regularly serviced (cleaned/lubed). If they are, then continue looking elsewhere.

I figure the less I use it the longer it will last. If I think I'm on a roll-worthy incline, I'll pause at neutral on my way to park. If the car starts rolling, I'll set the brake.

Mine rolls up to several inches until it finds the parking pawl, and that just kind of bugs me. It doesn't take THAT much of a slope for it to do it, either. Stopped half out of where some tires have created a low spot in an asphalt parking space? It'll roll down into that if I give it the opportunity. So parking brake goes on before I take my foot off the brake in Park. My quirk, I own it.
