So I am building my new Chevy Volt on Chevrolet.com site and the red option color is no longer available. Any idea? I started a chat with someone and they mentioned it is available. I have used various browsers, PC and Mac and and still no red. Maybe GM discontinued the red or some GM web designer mistakenly removed it.

How ODD. And you still can't order the gray leather interior with the Blue exterior.

Ironically, when you hit the website to build your own, the default picture is red. But it isn't an option. Hopefully it's just a website issue, but try going to a dealership to see if they can indeed order it. if not, then scour your area for one that might be in stock.

Cars.com show 69 of them within 250 miles of Maine.

I recall there was a holdup on Gen 1 reds a while back. It had something to do with the supplier, not due to any color changes.

Well the volt doesn't appear to be available in red in the build and price tool. The bolt is valuable in red if you are in one of the few states where it is available today. If you are dead set on a Voltec, then I guess you are stuck with the CT6 PHEV later this year.

I believe it COULD also be a possibility that the 2017's are being moved off the assembly lines to make way for the factory upgrades to begin the setups for the 2018's.

If you think about it, it makes sense. It's usually in the fall when the next years design is released. So they have to stop making the current year at some point. As far as the colour goes, it's kinda like when you go online to purchase that cool set of sunglasses you always wanted.....and frame "xyz in size -10r" is not selectable.....but "xyz in size 8r" IS !! So you're like WTF !?!?!?

I think the same case could be here as well. ...my thoughts is all....for what it's worth.

Bored I decided to see if i could find a red tin coat on the website. Like others I hit a wall while using chevy's system for configuration. So I decided to try a color I knew was available. Once I got results I had an option for selecting the red color. Sure enough, found a new red just miles from house. Hopefully whoever web master is, is in short no web master. There are red vehicles available you may just need to rethink how you use the website.

wasn't the red issue and other color issues due to the Japan quake
Yes, that's right -- thanks for reminding me of the cause. Obviously not the issue here.

There are SRTs on lots, but starting this Monday, looks like no more SRT Volts will be produced.

That being said, I bet some "new" red color is offered for MY2018 Volts. Perhaps Cajun Red will replace SRT.

The issue that I have is with the website. Once you pick your options you have a choice of having a dealer contact you or using your choice you can look for available inventory. Using the build price option it would appear there is no reds period. But by passing up on this option and doing an end round search one can find vehicles that are available in red. Whoever is in control of the website is doing a poor job in getting pertinent information to the consumer.
1. i.e. by giving them the most up to date information such as there is temporary to permanent halt in new manufacturing of the vehicles or vehicles in a stated color.
2. Giving a easy option to search for available vehicles most closely matching build price..

In short this 2017 from a site that represents a billion dollar manufacturer but the website is behaving as if its 2000. Not good for chevy or the consumer, unless chevy wishes to turn off prospective buyers.

Hence, after having dealt with this experience, the question then becomes: do dealers and car manufacturers actually give a better experience to consumers then say a Tesla model?
