No HomeLink on Gen2 Volt?

Say it isn't so, but all signs point to them removing HomeLink for Gen 2. Hard to believe they would do that since most of these cars are kept in.....wait for it......GARAGES! I have seen two Gen 2's and could not find any HomeLink buttons. No reference to them in any order guides and the dealer says his sources are saying no HomeLink. Have to believe this was a cost cutting measure, cause it certainly didn't remove much weight. I still have my Gen 2 on order but very disappointed that a $40k car would not have this feature. If somebody knows anything different, love to hear from you.

Not really.
The new Colorado also doesn't offer Homelink, so I'm not surprised the Volt won't. I don't know why it's not at least an option though.
You can always install it after buying, from what I've read, it's pretty easy.

Wow! That's a deletion that I didn't catch.

In the 2014 Volt ordering guide, they list Universal Home Remote (UG1) as standard equipment. I can't find this in the 2016 Volt ordering guide.

You can get the 2016 ordering guide from the link above.

Also, this picture of the overhead console for the 2016 Volt doesn't show any buttons for a Universal Home Remote.

Here's hoping that instead of putting 3 buttons in the roof console, they built in home link functionality on the touch screen. That would certainly be an improvement. Alas, not having homelink isn't a reason to avoid the volt gen2 and get an inferior vehicle like a PiP just to get homelink. The money I'm saving on fuel alone, I could easily afford to buy a garage door add-on to open the garage door and check its status with a smartphone. I saw something like that at lowes last week.

I'm not sure how having to sort through menus to get to the garage door opener would be an improvement over a hard button on the ceiling.
Sounds similar to how moving the climate controls to within a menu was an "upgrade".

Regardless, I would agree that it's not a reason to not buy a car. You can buy a clip on remote for a couple bucks, or you could even buy the home link kit and have it installed wherever you like.

Too bad, it's a backwards step. GM has been building universal garage door openers into cars for at least 10 years. It was a feature that many of my friends that don't drive GM noted as a great "extra".

Burying it within menus or having to fiddle with a smartphone app aren't nearly as convenient. The visor clipped remote will have to suffice. I tend to keep the remote inside the armrest storage as I don't want someone breaking into the car to steal the remote.

Interesting discovery if proven true. But FTR the buttons for my garage door openers are in the drivers sun visor on my 2014 Stingray.

I will really miss this. However, it may just be a "miss" in teh order guide. If you look at the end of the guide it gets updated frequently. Example:

This is a pretty serious omission. Every car that has been in my driveway over the past 10 years has had homelink. (Tundra, Tacoma, Magnum, Ram 1500, Impala, Volt, ELR).

I never set it up in my ELR since my garage is still completely full (both bays) of my daughter's JUNK. Which I seriously think is worth WAY LESS than my car! (yeah, it's getting pretty old)

Well that is a big disappointment. With four garage doors, homelink is a must. Every car I have had in the past 14 years has had it. What a stupid omission. I also have doubts about the value add for the LTZ package too. Looks to me like a fully loaded LTZ will (still) be over $40,000. I wonder what other Gen II surprises lurk.

Carrying the small clip-on remote for opening your garage door is exactly what thieves are looking for. It's like giving them a key to your house.
On the other hand, it's very hard to steal your HomeLink. They'd have to steal the car, then actually drive it back to your house to use it.
Agreed. Homelike was a must-have on my last purchase. I had gotten really tired of replacing batteries and dealing with diminishing range as the batteries got weak in my clip on garage remote.
Top 2 reasons why I like it.

IMO best to have through cellphone (most new models of openers) or dedicated remote.
No...No...No, ONLY if it is voice controlled. Please don't pickup your cell phone while driving! I want my garage door to open while turning into my driveway. I don't want to stop in my drive, grab my phone, open the garage door app, then open the door, drive into the garage, close the door, power down the car, then close my app.

the MyQ system can be linked to home automation (like smartthings) and open when you drive in based on GPS location and speed (let's say, so it doens't open when you walk in).

Also, we yet have to see the Android/iOS integration but it could be on the touch screen and not have to tak eyour phone (here it's 4 demerit points and a hefty fine for even just holding a phone in your hand)

Homelink needed, but install sounds tricky...getting access to proper wires, etc.

Step 14.
Tuck Wiring Harness beneath headliner if necessary, secure Wiring Harness behind the
A-pillar and/ or dash trim) taking care not to bind wires.
Step 15.Replace any panels removed during install
