I have a 2012 Volt and the electric cabin heat doesn't seem to work most days UNLESS I remote start/remote condition the car. It doesn't seem to matter if it is plugged in or not when I remote start, as long as I remote start it for a few minutes, the heat will work.

I've seen people post issues with the electric cabin heat and had the heater module replaced to fix things but since my heat (when in electric mode) works sometimes, I think the heater module might be ok.

Sure seems like a software issue to me. Anyone else experienced this or had a fix for this?

You are correct, there have been lots of posts on this issue and you are also correct, there is software update. I suspect the module is ok, too, since you have had it replaced. Depending on settings and temperature, remote starting may be running the ice to precondition the cabin. On my 2013, I had good cabin heat after the software update. Even better heat after a leaking reservoir hose clamp was tightened and refilled with coolant. Search the forums, lots of good info.
