Does anybody know how to get information on whether and when the $199 navigation disc includes [significant; actual] updates for my vehicle?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Has anybody heard anything about an overall software update for the 2012 Volt?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I've got to say, the map database update process is a total disaster. While the car shows me detailed information on the map database version, map updates are sold by part number. I've spent hours talking with and emailing the people at gmnavdisc.com, my Volt advisor (when I had one) and the people they transferred me to (the "mapping" group or similar).

The result was always "we can't tell you if this disc is different from what you already have" (well enough how many updates have been made).
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As for the vehicle as a whole, a Volt advisor opined that perhaps a year after the car's release, a software update might be available, and my 2012 Volt was manufactured in August, 2011.

The worst software (IMHO) is the execrable HDD player (even dumber, I read elsewhere on this forum that this potentially great feature has been yanked for 2013 - I guess I'm driving the best model year). The HDD version I have plays "by artist" and "favorite" lists from the beginning, and in [alphabetical!] order every time they're selected. Much better if they remember the last song played and/or included a "shuffle" feature.

...and getting back to the "album" menu requires the driver to re-navigate from the top menu back down to the album you're already playing (talk about driver distraction).

Of course I'd like a display of statistics since the last fill-up, and maybe a way to disable a few (too easy to brush against) buttons like the seat warmers (it took me a couple of weeks to keep my hands away from those!), and other software enhancements would be appreciated.

For less than $199.95 you can buy a complete nav system Garmin or tom tom with free lifetime updates so why bother ?
Tom
For one, if I ugly up my Volt I'm not going to do so with a nav unit; I've already got the in-dash plus my mobile phone.

I'll mount an HD Radio before I add a third source of map data

According to the service dept. there is a recall for software update on my 2013 Volt I bought a couple weeks ago. I'm going to try and get it to the dealer prior to next year and will let you know if I can what was updated!;)
