Hi, purchased a new summit white Volt through AutoLand, which made the shopping experience easier.

It's a sexy car but I'm surprised at how few options there are for cargo carrying. Hope that changes as the car becomes more popular!

Cargo like car top carriers, or cargo like towing trailers? A super quick Google search found these car top roof racks for gen 2 Volt

http://www.carid.com/2017-chevy-volt-roof-racks/

It said there were 60 items.

Everyone with a Volt should check out this website for Volt goodies: http://voltshelf.weebly.com/ which includes the famous
Volt Shelf - custom made for Volt gen 1 and 2. Lots of people don't like the soft cargo cover Chevy supplies with Volt, and this
volt shelf fills that void with all sorts of custom cargo bay covers.

Looking for a tow hitch? They are now available for gen 2 Volt: https://www.etrailer.com/hitch-2016_Chevrolet_Volt.htm

Hope this was helpful in finding some cargo accessories for your new Volt. It took just a few minutes to look this stuff up.
I know Tire Rack is seeking a photo vehicle for their website - for 2016-17 Volt. As of now they just have a 1st gen Volt
up for tire sizing and wheel selection. Looks as if this will change any day now.

Thanks for the welcome. I'm looking for a compatible roof rack because I own a Thule cargo box that I used with my traded-in Prius. Hitch would be cool because I have bikes but I'm not expecting miracles in terms of capacity.

I found that carid web page as well, but the racks listed that supposedly fit 2017 (or 2016) volt (171 products) are all supposedly universal fit. If you look at the descriptions of many of them, it is clear that they would not work on a volt. I contacted carid on their chat line and asked if they had any products that fit the 2017 or 2016 volt. The answer: no.

As far as I have been able to determine, there are no products currently available that are designed to fit the gen-2 volt. I would be hesitant to by any supposedly universal fit product without some kind of assurance that it would actually work
