Hello - I am new to the Volt family; purchased a used 2014 2 weeks ago, and loving it!

I have been searching the internet and talked to the salesperson that sold me the car, and had no success..

How do I check the version of the maps installed on the built in navigation system? I noticed GM has the 2017 version on sale until the end of the month - don't want to make the purchase - if the previous owner recently updated the current system.

Thanks in advance for your help!

I'd say save your money and use the maps that come with any smartphone, but I can see how some people like having the navigation built in. On my recent trip to the east coast, I've already found two exits (one in Pennsylvania, the other in Massachusetts) which were newly constructed that differed from my phone's maps, and even those probably wouldn't be in the new GM maps.

If there are new maps coming, what does it matter if the previous owner has updated, you know it's not the 2017 edition. I think it's very unlikely anybody has updated as people tend to spend a fortune on their cars then get ultra cheap on maintenance and future updates.

I also agree with this. Save the money and invest in a quality suction mount for your device. If you prefer to connect via USB for any reason, invest the additional $5 in an extra long power/charge cord. I keep my phone mounted on the drivers door, to the bit of glass that does not roll down and hide the extra long charge cord from the center console to the phone.
