Now that it could be over for the big "oil company's", wouldn't it be fascinating if they would give up all the inventions, ideas and everything else they have kept from us over the last few decades

It's not over. Big oil will just shift from one energy source to multiple energy sources. British Petroleum (BP) changed its tagline to "Beyond Petroleum" 8 years ago realizing the end of oil was near.

National Security

I would like to see oil company executives charged with treason if it can be shown that they have been withholding inventions, patents, and/or devices that could dramatically reduce or eliminating our dependence upon foreign oil. Energy is at the core of our national security woes.

I totally agree, there's probably no prof but all the things you hear about that were going to enhance ours lives that suddenly disappear. I know about the guy that invented a carburetor, there's so many stories I wonder how many were true

It's well known that when we shot down that UFO in Roswell back in '47, that the aliens decided to act by sending their minions down to take over and run oil companies. This way they could forever keep us in a technological dark age and maintain an iron grip on us as we became more and more dependent on the black goo they supply us with. They are starting to squeeze us now. It's all part of their nefarious plan for planetary domination.

However, I heard tin foil blocks the signals to the transmitters implanted in our heads. There just might still be hope...

All this hate and conspiracy theories of big oil is just fueling the fire for big government to take over big oil (it will happen). You don't want the government to take over oil, because it would be like taking one step forward and two steps back. Socialism solves nothing.

This makes no sense kubel. Government doesn't have to take over big oil, big oil took over government long ago. Every republican since Reagan has been a shill for the oil companies, looking to maximize their profits at the expense of the rest of the country and ultimately the entire world. Mccain is no different, he has dozens of oil company lobbyists on his campaign. Better warm up those drills for ANWR folks!

The fix is in, and has been for a long time.

Government doesn't have to take over big oil, big oil took over government long ago.
Bush, Cheney, & Rice are so connected to oil its absurd.
Its anecdotal, but also true, that Condoleezza Rice does indeed have an oil tanker named after her.

We've been addicted to oil a long time, before Bush and Rice, it's been the economy run buy oil for many years, if your going to have an oil economy it probably is best to have oil people running it. That time is over now and another time is coming, is an Obama tax and big government economy better. I still think oil companys have kept a lot of real neat inventions away from us and I want to see them

There had to be a reason

Anybody been wondering whats with the sudden drop in oil prices?
Well, it might have something to do with China & the Olympics.

Starting in August:
1) Hundreds of Chinese factories closing (starting now) for 8/8/08 Olympics in drive for cleaner air in China during the event.
2) Chinese driving cars will decline 50% due to even/odd day limitations based on license plate numbers between now and August Olympics.
3) 300,000 heavy polluting trucks now currently only allowed to operate at night, will not be allowed to operate at all over the next month.

These all add up to a huge decline in demand for August delivery of oil in one of the biggest oil consuming markets in the world, China.
The drop in oil prices is temporary, the Olympics will be over before Labor Day & demand will resume in earnest.

Nice to have a temporary over-supply in the market, but its not likely to be permanent.

Of course is won't be permanent. Energy is expensive and it won't come at the cost of big oil. When the last boat filled with oil leaves port from the middle east, it will go to the port that is willing to pay the most for it. Besides, oil production isn't calculated by supply and demand, it is calculated by marginal costs and marginal revenue. If demand goes down, production will go down causing fewer units to be sold at a higher prices so the same revenue is achieved.

I have a slightly different take on the matter. The price is going down simply because Americans and others got spooked by the crazy price of gas and started to cut back by huge amounts out of sheer fear. That cutback resulted in billions of miles less driving and thus global demand went down (around 1.3 percent) and global reserves thus grew. That bigger reserve gap reduces the supply stress and thus oil prices relaxed. Supply and demand still rule the day. The huge delays and over exaggerated swings confuse the issue but it will always cause the momentum changes. Like a big bowling ball on the end of a weak spring. If you pull hard enough and long enough the ball will follow.

There is 85 mbd of global oil production and it has been stagnant since 2004. When demand gets too close to that limit the markets get worried and the price starts to climb. If there is an "event" that looks to effect the supply then that also makes the markets get worried and the price will start to climb.

It looks like we are going to have to deal with that limit of global oil production for at least a decade before alternatives come on-line in any significant amount. Thus, enjoy human's current level of industry. We are going to be stuck here for a while. Back and forth we will go but economies and populations follow energy. Oil is stagnant and will keep the world stagnant until we find alternatives. It's that simple and you can dance around the issue all you want, do Voodoo dances, play the blame game, go to war, cry about it, etc. It's not going to change the fact that oil is getting harder to discover, extract, and refine. It’s all about the energy.

How true. You forgot to mention about how the aliens also took over the Republican party and have been controlling Bush, Cheney, Rice, and all those other oil company shills using advanced brain washing and mind control techniques.

It would be such a small load, you could do it by hand. :D
