My 2013 Volt has just been updated with the most recent software. Some of which isn't even released to the general public just yet.

When my dealer was stumped on my issues 1-5 (see below), they contacted the system engineers in Detriot and the engineers decided to have my dealer download a "special" release of the software to install on my vehicle. They did and I have it now. I don't mind being a "guinea pig" with new software--I am, after all, a software engineer myself.

I am happy to say, issues 1-5 have not re-appeared although I have only had this new software since last night and only drove to work this morning (using nav). I'll thoroughly test it in the coming days.

What had happened was that while I had my 2013 Volt in for some minor tweaks (it's only a month old), I discussed the issues I've been having with the navigation system (with MyLink). Issues such as:

  1. Freezing/getting stuck at "Calculating route..." more times than I would car to remember
  2. Freezing/getting stuck when issuing voice commands for setting a destination and/or waypoint(s)
  3. Deleting waypoints and adding new ones while destination has already started (freezing/getting stuck)
  4. Center stack rebooting (usually when one of the above has happened)
  5. Bug when I have a destination *and* at least one waypoint set, the distance-to-destination indicator does not decrement as I drive toward the waypoint/destination. It does display and decrement correctly if I just have a destination, but zero waypoint(s).
  6. When configured to display everything in metric, the display of the speed limit on the current road is not in metric--it remains in U.S. (standard) mode.
  7. Delayed charging bug (this is the well-documented issue and is easily found by searching on the internet or this forum)

Issues 1 through 4 happens only about 10-15 percent of the time, but it has happened when I needed to navigate the most. :(

Issue 6 works as designed. The speed limit display (which looks like a street sign), is just that--as if you were looking up at a sign.

Issue 7 was fixed with the October 19 software update which my dealer also installed.

Before taking my vehicle in, I noted all the current version numbers of the software, via the Center Stack > Config > Radio Settings > Software Versions Menu > Software Version Information (see attached screenshot)

Of the 28 pieces of software displayed, two of them were removed, two new ones were added, and three stayed the same. I'm not sure why these are stored/displayed under Radio Settings, but I figure that the software displayed is more than just "radio", per se. This is probably for all the MyLink components (including navigation).

(see attached PDF of the "before" and "after" software versions)

p.s. I was not told to keep the installation of this new, unreleased software "under wraps". I was simply told to keep my dealer informed if any of my issues were not resolved or of any anomalies should I encounter any.

I had the 2013 Volt software updates last week (see this post), likely the same as you had. I also made a long laundry list of software issues for the service to address. The software updates addressed less than half. Granted, most is minor stuff, but big ones are the 2 'check engine' light events causes the car to switch off while driving.

I did not experience a nav 'calculating route' freeze up before, but after the update I had one that did not even go away after rebooting the car. It froze up the entire center stack and hogged the center spot in the DIC. I also still have the occasional factory reset of many config settings.

Powertrip,
FYI
Many of your listed symptoms are already documented at dealers and the applicable radio software readily available for those that exhibit these symptoms. There may be ANOTHER release at some point to address certain recently identified bluetooth issues such as pairing issues, dropped BT, and static during calls. (in some cases these may actually be iPhone iOS6 induced issues) But it's possible you received BETA versions of this software at the dealership. However I believe "the plan" is to eventually issue these updates Over-The-Air (OTA) via Onstar once officially released, hence mitigating a dealer visit- Stay Tuned!

2013 Volt Owners: I didn't see anything on this article in 'Search" regarding unexpected shutdowns ... from Lyle Dennis on Inside EVs:

http://insideevs.com/gm-upgrading-2013-volt-software-to-prevent-shutdowns/

Sorry, if this is a re-post.
RCB, This is different software from what's listed in this thread. The Volt has over 30 modules EACH with your own flashable ROMS for firmware/software. We actually "scooped" the release of this new HPCM2 software and resulting campaign here in the gm-volt.com forums on the day it was officially released (Oct 19)
Here's the thread http://gm-volt.com/forum/showthread...oftware-Update-Oct-19&highlight=2013+software
(with thanks to 1RiverMan1 for his initial post)

@RobbertPatrison: That issue (stuck Nav screen) is what I had. I couldn't get rid of that screen and the center stack was next to useless until I shut off the car, opened the door, and waited a one or two minutes. This would happen relatively often. They said this was addressed in yesterday's interim software update of my Volt. So far, I haven't gotten it stuck, but I will test it thoroughly on the way home this evening. It also had a lot to do with using voice control to add/remove both destination and waypoints.

@WOT: Thanks for your feedback and for clarifying this thread's subject title. :)

PowerTrip: thanks for the detailed info. I will compare the software versions I have with yours. It sure seems that I don't have the stuck navscreen update, or even that the update that they installed injected that bug. Since my service was on Oct. 15th, I might have just missed the Oct 17 update....

Anyway, I have the impression that my dealer is a little over his head with all this advanced software stuff, and simply installed some new looking software and hopes for the best. The spontaneous engine shutdown event that I had does match the recall pattern, but nobody (not dealer, nor my Volt Advisor) could confirm that.

My Volt NAV system crapped out just as I was getting into Pittsburgh today. Nothing has got it working yet. OnStar was great, gave them the address and they did the turn-by-turn to the car and that was really nice. No nav operation now, just get a black box and "Navigation Initiating" text until I power off the radio. All console soft-touch keys are inactive during the lockup. Still hasn't worked. My only fear is I lost wifi while transmitting route data to the car while i walked out of the office, but this morning I was getting errors from the nav saying "Destination out of guide boundries" with some error code, but it did start working when I pressed 'home' and nav soft-keys again. Hope I get this fixed.......I'm lost without it.....Literally.....in Pittsburgh!!!

Resurrecting this old thread. Are people still having the "calculating route..." freeze? I just experienced this in my brand new 2014 (about 1 month old). It should have all of the latest updates, so I'm wondering if this issue was never really fixed or if I might have a different problem. Definitely don't like some of the issues I've had with the new infotainment system vs. the mostly rock solid version in the 2011.
