Hey Guys,

I'm noticing some lag when I engage Andriod Auto. It can be slow to react when switching from app to app, or just take forever to sync up with my phone, and leaving me with a black screen in the meantime.

My phone is a Note 3, and its not the fastest anymore. This may be all or part of the issue.

Anyone else noticing any kind of interface lag?

Phone speed and USB cable have a lot to do with the performance.

I expect that it's your phone. Android Auto is essentially only a second display with all of the processing happening on your phone. I noticed a nice speed increase when I upgraded from a Note 3 to a Google Pixel XL last year.

Same experience running Android Auto on a Moto G3 that had next to no software bloat. I upgraded to new Galaxy S5 (not S6, S7, or S8) and all symptoms disappeared. No lag, no symptoms now. My wife's S7 also performs flawlessly with Android Auto.

I had quite some problems with my xiaomi MI3. It took like few minutes to load android auto, then especially voice commands were not usable and regular interface sometimes ok, sometimes you have to wait quite a bit. Now I have oneplus 5 and well that is a difference. Everything is blazing fast in the android auto and phone as well No lag at all.
