I recall when the Model X was revealed (before deliveries) and Elon was asked on Twitter if a sunshade was coming with the X. He indicated it would be. Now an article below indicates it was because of complaints.

Title: Due To Complaints, Tesla Will Send Model X Owners A Front Windshield Sunscreen Free Of Charge

I don't think people realize or understand how dark the tint is starting at the rear view mirror and getting darker farther up.

Numerous times I've had the sun up in that area and it has not bothered me. I've had passengers in on several drives like this and they also confirm the sun with that dark tint is not an issue.

Hands down one of the top 5 favorite things about the Model X.

Drove through Glacier National Park in MT (tree/mtn view) and downtown Chicago (tall buildings, etc) within a week. It is quite a different "open" feeling. Hard to describe without the personal experience!

But how is it at sunset and sunrise when the sun is below the tint and there are no sunshades?
There are sunshades so it is like other cars except when the sun is higher and would normally be blocked by the roof. At that time the angle and shading prevents it from being a glare issue.

I was just wondering about windshield replacement on the X.
Does insurance cost more, would it need to be dealer installed, OEM option only?

Hell the WHOLE car costs more. You can bet your bottom dollar insurance will cost more. But like they say if you can afford the car in the first place.....

I always found it funny when a Corvette guy would finally move up to a Z06 and then complain the insurance, tires etc all cost more.

Having ridden in Scott's X during the day, the windshield is indeed pretty awesome. I could see the sun through the tinted area, but it was not glaring, no discomfort. I think the X is perfect fit for Scott's wanderlust. :)

The windshield was great having big open expansive views.

This supercharge in Big Timber, MT was right behind a gas station (ok, it did have a gift shop, liquor store, and a *huge* gun/camping/outdoor selection).
