Running tire pressure too high during test? Sounds like the kind of car Tom Brady would drive. At this rate, every car manufacturer has been or will be caught doing something similar by the end of the year.

I've actually said the exact same thing...Many on here believe that GM has brilliant engineers, therefore couldn't a brilliant engineer come up with a better "defeat device" than VW? CR was very easily able to exploit the VW's defeat device...

Not sure why this is even making the news in the US, it only applies to some small micro cars for Japanese market. Once this type of cheating is done once, it has to be done again to keep questions from being asked why the efficiency dropped and have to explain it. My guess is that they did it to get a contract vs a competitor and it stuck. Nissan should have noticed the discrepancy as well (they eventually did)

This is minor compared to VW incident, only similar because it was intentional. Mitsubishi was basically doing hypermiling tricks and overinflating the tires and reporting a lower test pressure so overstatement was small, around 5 or 10%. If you bought one, you could match their tests by overinflation as well. The VW cheating was far more involved.

Sounds just like NASCAR. Everyone 'cheats' as much as possible. It's an integral part of competition. GM might be a bit more risk-averse lately though.

Let's start punishing the regulators who fail to catch it. Then we'll see something closer to playing fair.
