Lost the Only Key I have

I've tried searching Google and the forums and I've found conflicting information.

Seems that some say the fob is programmed to the car and the dealer can do it remotely with proof of ownership, and others are saying the key fob holds a unique code and the car is programmed to accept that code.

I found the programming instructions for additional keyfobs, but no answer to programming a new blank. its a 2013 if it matters.

Right now I'm looking at calling the dealership tomorrow but we all know they can't be trusted and will just tell me to tow the car in so they can charge me an arm and a leg.

Anyone have experience here? What are some of my options?

Thanks all in advance!

You need a key to program others. Either call the dealer or a trusted locksmith to delete all known keys and never leave anything of value in the car as anyone that has the old key will still be able to get into the car, just not start it.

The programming of new key fobs is covered in the manual, but you need 1 working Fob. Otherwise the dealership will have to clear the lost key codes and reprogram.

No fob = tow car to dealer and bend over $$$. :(

Too late for the OP but anyone else reading this, if you still have at least 1 fob stop delaying and get a couple spares! I found mine on ebay at around $50.00 ea. genuine OEM with blank metal key. Double that from genuinegmpartsdirect.com and North of $150.00 from a dealer typically, NOT counting the reprogramming!

The hardest part about programming a new fob yourself is removing the metal emergency key lock cover from the door handle without causing any damage! Need to pull handle out slightly while prying the cover up, towards the handle, to remove it. Take your time and nothing gets damaged. Follow instructions in the manual for programming.

I got 1 fob first. Confirmed it was OEM and worked. Then got 2 more! Have 5 fobs to lose now before the crying game starts. :(
