The Voltec warranty is significantly longer in mileage and years of coverage in California. I am wondering what determines that coverage. What if a car is bought and registered in California, then later you move out of state or sell it to an out of state buyer? Does it still have the longer warranty in that other state? What if you live and buy a car outside of CA, then move into California? What if a used car is transferred into CA and sold there by a CA dealer to a CA resident? What exactly determines the level of coverage?

My understanding is that it's determined by VIN. The 5th position will be an A-H. A-D are non-CA, E-H are CA. The 4 letters for each also denote if the vehicle is premium, has nav, both, or neither.

Easy answer: ask the dealer.

The California warranty is sold with the car as if had bought a ICE car with California emissions, it does not matter where the car is the California warranty is still good. On that note, if the car was not sold with the warranty and you are in California it does not extend your warranty.
