Location for Dash Cam

I'm about to head out on a 7k mile (Buh-Bye lifetime average) road trip and I figured a Dash Cam would be a good idea. I landed on the Garmin 45/55/65 Problem is, with the lane departure/collision alert thing under the mirror there is not much room for a Dash Cam.

Wondering where people have ended up putting dash cams? It seems there really is no good spot. Garmin says it won't stick reliably to the plastic under the mirror, which really is the best place.

I bought one of these:

Cheap!

But it works in the heat and has decent video quality.

I really like having a record in case something happens, I watch Russian dash cam vids.

Bought another one for my truck after a year.

I put it on with the suction cup high as it can get behind the mirror and the camera hangs down just below the painted part of the windshield. Just have to be careful adjusting the mirror because camera is right behind it.

I run the wire around the windshield to the little door and power port above the infotainment center.
