I often forget to plug in at home, I wish it would text me a reminder a few minutes after I park at my "home" location and am not plugged in.

This would be a lot more useful than the time-of-day reminder, which goes off every night when I'm travelling or if I'm out having a late dinner. If I'm not at home, I don't have the option of plugging in most of the time, but when I'm at home, I want to be plugged in, always. Seems like all the hardware is there - you can save a home location for charging, it can send a text message through OnStar to remind you - wouldn't it be simple to have a remind-me-to-plug-in-if-I'm-parked-at-home option?

I'm guessing you haven't had the car long. If you always plug in when coming home, it quickly becomes a routine habit like charging the cell phone. After the first couple weeks I've never forgot to plug in as it's now become automatic.

If you have the OnStar app or myChevrolet app you can set up a notification to plug in the Volt at a specified time if it is not plugged in.
Vehicle Status->Notification Settings. I have mine set for 11PM and will receive a text at that time if I have forgotten to plug in.

I'm on the free OnStar basic plan, OnStar sends me a text at a time I've pre-determined, when it is expected to be plugged in. If it is not plugged in at that time, it sends the text to remind me.

Do you have an OnStar subscription?

I've had it a while. It's when I have cargo in the car that I forget to plug in - I grab an armload of stuff off the passenger seat before getting out, and go inside to put it down, and forget to go back out and plug in.

Yeah, like I said, I set up the reminder, but it only reminds me at a fixed time (not immediately), and then that reminder is annoying if I'm not at home when the time I set comes up (out to dinner, on a road trip, left the car parked at the airport, etc). It would be far more helpful if it would text me if it's been parked at my "home" location for more than 5 minutes without being plugged in.

I'd consider an app on your phone for something like that. Have you look at those options by chance?

GPS location and a reminder to do something, in this case to plug in. Just an idea....
But the phone is in my pocket, not my car, and there is already a time-of-day reminder feature, I want it to notify all the time if I forgot to plug in and the car is at "home". All the pieces are there, just rhe logic is not what I want. I need to be reminded that the car is at home but not plugged in, rather than be reminded that it is 8pm and the car is not plugged in. The Volt has a location-based charging so it knows when it is at the "home" location. If they didn't want OnStar involved (I believe OnStar does the plug-in reminder texts) they could just have it do the triple honk 5 minutes after parking at home location if not plugged in...

The phone may be in your pocket, but the "assistants" on most phones can do location based reminders. I know Siri can be told "remind me to XXXXXX when I get home" as long as you have your home address in your info.

Phone GPS isn't that hypersensitive. If you are in the house and car is in the garage/driveway, you are in the same proximity. Again, it was just an idea to look into.

Could you imagine the 'outrage' if the car triple honked for yet another reason? LOL

The GPS is on the car... Gen 2 models have a "location based charging" which allows you to set a GPS location as "home" and it automatically uses 12 amps instead of 8 amps if you are there. So I was saying, the car "knows" when it is home, and it knows whether it is plugged in, and it has the capability to send you text messages...

Plugging in isn't my problem! When I unplug and jump in the car it yells at me for leaving the charge door open!

Well, it's finally happened - all the "boy who cried wolf" notifications to plug-in while I was away on business trips (and hence unable to plug in) officially trained me to ignore the notifications. Now when I need reminding, it doesn't matter that the text messages popped up because I automatically dismiss them without even thinking about it. They really need to make this location-based!!!
