lithium ions and segway

after just 14 months, I had to replace the small lithium ion battery on my Segway. The cost is $950 apiece!
can't wait to see what the cost will be for the volt....

Is this anomalous? How much usage does your Segway get? How many charge/discharge cycles was the battery subjected to? Can you drain the battery until it's flat-out dead, or is there some kind of sophisticated charge management capabilty in the Segway?
