I've had this annoying rattle in my G2 premier for the past two weeks. Metallic sounding, not in the accessory cubby. Still there if i drive around with the hatch open, also not under the cargo mat. I went so far as riding in the back while having my wife drive over some bumpy roads and all I could tell was that it is behind the left side plastic covers just aft of the left rear passenger seat. I need to get those plastic covers off but have no idea how to get them off.
Anybody have any ideas? This rattling is driving me nuts on my daily drive!!!!

I'm getting a rattle from the rear as well. Not sure where it's from but it's quite pronounced when on rough roads...very annoying. I thought it may be the net latches around the attachment points but it's not. I fear it's from inside the rear quarter panels.

I had a rattle coming from the passenger side of my 2017 volt. I could have sworn it was coming from my interior (passenger seat or door panel). Had the dealer check the seat and remove the door panel. It ended up being my exhaust. I ran over something, bent my exhaust and was rubbing against the heat shield creating a "metal sound." You might want to put the car on ramps, or put it up on jack stands or get it up on a lift to heck the undercarriage before taking part the interior. Also, this other thread describes a sound coming from hatch. Have a look there too http://gm-volt.com/forum/showthread.php?284730-Chassis-rattle-or-knocking-sound

I pretty much figured out where my rattle is coming from....from behind the right interior plastic cover/rear pillar....above and ahead of the subwoofer or behind the rear right seat. Something behind the plastic interior cover is loose. Annoying as hell.

Mine's on the left side... how is the plastic trim held in place? Anybody have any pictures from a repair manual?

I gently tried to pry it off but it seems it's held in place by either clips or by expanding plastic inserts...both of which are an utter nightmare to get off without the right tools and in some instants, made to snap off intentionally so as to put on new parts entirely. If I was bothered (time-wise), I'd take it to the dealer but frankly it's not worth having it sit in their lot overnight or for two days for them to simply remove the panel and examine what's lose under it.

If anyone does have a removal solution that doesn't entail destroying the current clips/inserts, plastic piece, please do share!

I have a metallic rattling sound coming from the right rear hatch area when I go over bumps. The dealer just diagnosed it today as a defective hatch strut (one of the telescoping tubes that holds the hatch open). He ordered a new one to install later this week.

Just picked up my 2017 Premier 2 days ago and noticed a similar metal rattling sound as well coming from the back, almost under the trunk area. Seems to show up more while accelerating out of a turn in both left or right direction. If I come out of the turn slowly, the rattle is gone. Almost sounds like something is rolling around underneath. I checked the inside of the under panel at the back of the vehicle but found nothing loose.
Any ideas??

On my 2017 Volt , my rattle was in the back , The battery compartment is held with a plastic nut on the right side of the battery .. making the compartment clank at every bump ... I just remove added padding under the compartment and remove the pastic nut and replaced it with a steel nut .
