My neighbor with a Volt found a way to accidentally lock his keys in the Volt. I did not think it was possible, but he found a way.

He's an avid biker and took his Volt to the Shenandoah National Park. His keys were in the pouch of his bike. Well, he unlocked the trunk, put his bike in the car and closed the trunk. Well, since the car was still locked, the trunk locked when he closed it even though the keys were in the car. His phone was dead, so no RemoteLink. He used a payphone to call his wife and she called OnStar.

I tested this out myself in the safety of my garage, and yes it does work to lock the keys in the car.

Wait, this doesn't seem right. If the doors are locked, you can still open the trunk via close proximity with the key fob. If the doors are locked, you can still approach the trunk and open it (if the fob is nearby). If the fob is NOT nearby, then you cannot open the trunk.

If he had the fob in his bicycle which was inside the car, he should have just been able to open the trunk (the car has no way of knowing if the fob is inside or outside the vehicle).

No, the bicycle was out of the car, he just came back from a ride, he then put the bike with the FOB in the car and got locked out. He was able to open the car because the bike was right next to him behind the Volt. Then after loading the bike in the car, with the FOB in it, he got locked out.

Hi all
I tried three times to lock my keys in the car as you described and every time I closed the hatch I got the car chirping and at the same time all the doors unlocked when I closed the hatch I tried different spots each time I even put the key fob under the cover by the air compressor . So the only thing I can think of I'd that you two have something disabled in your config or you have a problem with the fob or your proximity in the car.

I tried this back in October when my neighbor told me about it and I was able to lock my keys in the trunk. I tried it last night and it beeped and unlocked the car. I wonder if there was some update to fix this issue as I definitely locked my keys in the trunk and so did my neighbor.

Well someone on the Chevy Volt Owners Facebook page managed to lock their keys in the trunk as well.
