Left key fob at home and drove the car away

I started the car this morning and when I pulled out of the car of the garage, I did not notice that the fob was not with me. Now I am at work and cannot lock the doors. I can still shut off and restart the car but cannot lock the doors even via OnStar as the app cannot connect to the car (may be for other reasons).

I probably got a message on the dashboard but did not see it. I would expect something more intrusive as when a door is not properly closed, you cannot miss it.

The good thing is I am not stranded without being able to get back home but only worry about leaving the car unlocked and ready to go...

I too thought that you may have left a fob in the car by mistake so I tested this on my own and I got the same results as you. I also thought that you should not be able to restart the car without a fob present so I sent this question to my Volt Adviser.

This was her reply:
"Thank you for your email. You are correct, you can continue to drive without the key fob until you shut the vehicle off, which is by pressing the power button without pressing the brake. There is a 10 minute window to restart the vehicle without the key fob after you stop. After that time, you will need the key fob to restart. If you ever run into this situation, go to the config, vehicle personalization settings, power door locks, unlocked door anti-lock out and turn this feature off. This will allow you to lock the driver door from the inside."
