My 3 year lease of a 2014 Volt ends at the end of 2017. How soon is too soon to start shopping for a new one? I've heard of lease "pull aheads" for a few months, but is 6 months possible? I'm cross-shopping Volts and Bolts.

Just keep your eyes peeled online.

I'm always shopping but only buy once in a long while.

Also your lease end is great timing to get a deal on a 2017 or maybe the 2018 might be around already.

Good luck

A pull ahead of six month is probably unrealistic unless you get burned in "another" category. I agree though that your timing will be perfect for an end of the year deal. NO worries for you, patience is your friend.

6 months is possible because I did it but I swapped to a vehicle with a high profit margin (truck) so maybe the dealer was willing to swallow some lease payments to make it happen. Most lease loyalty or lease conquest cash offers I see cover 2-3 months in our price range.

Definitely sign up for the farmer bureau today, knock on wood, but something could happen where you car gets totaled; now you'll be ready...

Incentives vary month to month, the big 20% cash back sale was in July last year...They may do a month of "17% cashback all 2017s" as the MY18s start to hit the lots...In Nov and Dec 2016 there weren't the 17%-20% cashback deals everyone was looking for...While often end of month and end of year usually make for more eager deals, if they're willing to give you say $5000 off the sales price on 12/31, you can usually get the same DEALER discount that next month...Best way to buy/lease a vehicle is email them and get them to compete...

Also while the Volt has not been the most resale friendly car, find out your payoff, look at your KBB value, if the off chance the numbers are close you may be able to sell your Volt if a deal comes along but I wouldn't expect incentive rich deals until the at least the summer...

We pulled ahead 6 months on 39 month lease. 4 months of that was due to a mailed offer for a lease pull ahead for 4 months plus a private offer of $1,000 direct from GM. In fact, just got another one in the mail yesterday.

Seems like, at least here in Minnesota, they start mailing out these lease pull ahead/private offer mailings starting 6 months out of end of lease.

The other two months we split with dealer, we paid one and they paid one. Still made sense because of Costco gift card promotion (we are exec members so worth $700), the ability to get the $7500 credit a year earlier, 0% financing and that we turned in at 41,000 miles while the tires were still within spec.

This time, because of how much we loved gen 1, we purchased rather than leased and plan to hold on to it indefinitely.

We too signed up for the FB rebate and it was ok with the Costco gift card, the lease pull, 0% financing and private offer. Note, however, that the current FB rebate only runs through 4/1/17. While it will probably be renewed, if I had the time I'd wait to sign up/renew until after the new promotion is in place (need 30 days of membership before eligible for rebate).

Just to add a few things...
-Even if you got a $30K sales price (before incentives) and GM offers a 17% off promo, that's still $5100 off...On the most favorable end, if you're wanting a $40K fully loaded Volt and can get it for $35K and they offer 20% off, that's $7000 off...Overall point, if you hear about a 17%-20% cashback off, crunch your numbers...May be worth pulling the trigger even if that means you have two vehicles for a few months...
-Costco cashcard promo generally runs late Nov through very early Jan...
-To qualifty for the Costco Card, you must be a Costco member for 30 days, but you can get the $55 membership and UPGRADE to the $110 executive membership the day you buy a GM vehicle...If you go in person to do the upgrade, you immediately get the Executive Card and a photo/scanned copy is all Costco requires...
-Once you get a Costco email saying your cash card has been processed you can now downgrade back to the $55 membership...
-Costco also allows you to bring any cashcard to customer service and exchange it for cash or a check; some customer reps may say no but just go the next day or find another Costco, this is very routine for them...
-Originally the MY17 Volt did not qualify for the 2016 holiday Costco program but was a later add...
-The Bolt EV does not YET qualify for any discount including Costco or the FB, I have not yet seen anyone reporting that they can use their GM credit card points...Two have reported couldn't use GM points for Bolt EVs...Have only see one $250 friends and family discount, but incentives do change on a monthly basis...
