Nope. If I stop pedaling everyone behind me comes to a halt? This seems like a theme park ride with limited usefulness in the real world.

I first read about Shweeb when it was competing for the Google prize in 2010. Nothing seemed to come of the win, though. There's a wikipedia page on it. That was one amateur video, though.

A monorail that you have to pedal yourself? I can't see it catching on.

There was a proposal for another, simpler system, that I thought was promising. It was a variation on the old pneumatic tube messaging system: a long clear tube enclosing a cycling path, with a permanent tailwind to help push the cyclists along. Simple, weatherproof, and cheap. 'Stations' have a revolving door type access to maintain the system pressure. I think it would work quite well year round even in places like Toronto where we have wide variations in the weather.

The video says it's electric. Pedaling is optional. It starts as a park ride. I'm not sure it will go anywhere beyond that.
