Makes me think the occupancy sensor operates via some sort of magnetic principle. I've never seen another manufacturer's seats behave like GM's...
Plus I've had mine replaced once because they would go off right after my daughter got out of the car and popped up a service airbag message on the DIC. The crazy thing was this started happening 70 miles before the bumper to bumper expired, but the dealership couldn't schedule me until a week and 1000 miles later. Plus the first day it happened, I didn't think to snap a picture and I had a trip to Danville for a track meet followed by a trip to Chicago O'hare airport. Thankfully, Paula, my service rep, fixed it and only charged me $100 even though it was an $800 repair.
