I was crusing the forum this morning reading about clean air rebate and came across this ad on top of the forum and thought how ironic. :p

Now I know some are greener than others (and maybe some members arent green at all) but it made me laugh because the thread i was reading just before i saw the ad.

Apropos of this, what is GM thinking by offering a diesel Cruze? I get why a diesel in a truck might have some appeal, diesels are associated with semi's so putting one in a pickup truck imparts the strength and durability of an 18 wheeler. But Americans have always hated diesel cars because the other association people have with semi's is that they are loud and filthy. European's like diesels because the fuel taxes on diesel oil in Europe are significantly less than the taxes on gas, but that doesn't apply in the US. If GM needs a more fuel efficient Cruze they already have it. All they have to do is replace the 18.4KVh battery in the Volt with a 2.5KVh battery, rip out the plugin charger, and slap a name plate on the back that says Cruze Hybrid. The Cruze Hybrid would be about 300 lbs lighter than the Volt, due to the much smaller battery, so it would have and EPA rating of about 45 MPG which is much better than they could get with a diesel Cruze.

That is not an advert on Volt Forum as much as it is a personalized ad for you based on cookies etc from search history and other online monkey business. I don't watch TV so I never see promos like that, but I sure get plenty of other ads related to previous search history.

Good point regarding the tailor made ads. Funny thing is i dont watch much tv either. I only have basic cable. As for online searches of trucks probably not, but i do read tons of news articles and other tidbits on flipboard. Maybe that ford raptor article that I read the other day.....who knows. It was just so ironic and funny to me at the time.

Word is the highway mpg will start with a 5. Anyway, the TCO of the gas version is probably lower, but some people like diesels. And, the diesel will offer a manual transmission which gets me interested.
