I have an intermittent issue with my 2017 Gen2. I'll be playing a podcast or something from my iPhone, I'll shut off the car and as I am about to get out the podcast will suddenly resume and I have to manually stop it.

I've tried a number of variations (bluetooth instead of plugging in, hitting pause on the screen before turning car off, hitting pause on the iPhone before turning car off, etc.) but they all randomly exhibit this issue.

My suspicion is that I am so slow getting out of the car that it thinks I want to sit for a while and want my radio to keep playing, kind of how it leaves the lights on until you've had a chance to walk away from the car. But does that make sense?

I may also be an outlier in that I usually leave my phone in the car instead of carrying it away every time I stop.

This is with an iPhone5, but I also saw it with the iPhone4.

Anybody else seen this happen?

My son's Toyota has an interesting symptom. When I plug in the iPhone to the USB cable, turn on Siri to get turn by turn directions, but stop the podcast or Pandora to achieve silence (my wife doesn't like music, but we still want to hear Siri tell us where to turn). if I nudge the volume knob or the volume buttons on the steering wheel to adjust Siri's volume, whatever source that was last playing will start playing again. Maybe this is what's happening in your Volt? Either you our nudging the volume, or there's something internal that causes it to change.

Nope, opening the door won't stop it! Good thought though. My old Prius definitely used the door opening to realize you were done with things like the headlights, which would otherwise stay on while you sat in the turned off car (and run the battery down).

my 2017 LT stops when opening the door. the pause is there when it plays that special chime on shut down which you can either lower volume on or disable, if disabled it does not interrupt whatever is playing when the car is shut off until the door is opened

My car has occasionally demonstrated a similar problem. For me it's with the NPR One app. Hasn't happened lately though. I get out of the turned off car and the audio will stop playing. I close the door (no keys or people in the car) and then a few seconds later the car will continue playing. Seemingly has something to do with the Carplay/Bluetooth audio handoff.

Once in a blue moon I would have a problem where I am listening to something streaming, someone calls me, I pick up the phone, and there is a mixture of audio from the person calling me and the radio station that was last playing (not the streaming music). Hang up and call again and the audio is fine. I think this has happened maybe 3 or 4 times during the life of the car so far.

Strangeness.

I think we all see this happening:

Listening to phone audio, via bluetooth.
Stop the car. Turn off "engine".
Audio stops for a second, then resumes.
Open door.
Audio stops.

But since you are hearing audio even after opening the door, from the car speakers, that's super weird.

That said, I have seen some buggy behavior with certain podcast apps. For example, DownCast sometimes has trouble playing over bluetooth even though every other app and phone call is working fine over bluetooth. I wouldn't be surprised if your podcast app is having a strange interaction with the car.

Do other apps exhibit that same oddness? Or is it limited to one specific app?

To follow up on this, it turns out the Volt does this too. When I turn the volume up or down with audio paused, the last source (podcast in my case) starts to play through bluetooth. So maybe you are nudging the volume switch on the steering wheel while exiting?

While the iphone (it's an iPhone5) does resume playing, even if I am out of the car and the door has been opened (obviously!) and closed, I can't say that the sound always comes from the car's speakers. Sometimes it's just the iPhone playing by itself. This behavior shows up both on the Apple Podcast app and Apple music app.

I suspect it's the nature of the Volt beast. My Android 6 (HTC One M9) does the same thing. It's a little disconcerting to have the delay but at least it's consistent. I also use the Bluetooth interface.
