They say never put iOS 11 Developer's Beta on your main phone. I did. And I drove around with it for good measure.
Here are some Apple Maps updates on iOS 11 (only some are related to Car Play):
1. You can zoom with one finger just like on Google Maps, except opposite effect. Double tap and hold on the second tap, then slide the finger up to zoom in and down to zoom out. On Google Maps, slide up to zoom out and slide down to zoom in.
2. 3D maps. Apple says it gives you indoor maps for malls and airports. I tried testing it, but not successful. They demo'd it at WWDC and it looked pretty cool.
3. During navigation guidance, speed limits and lane guidance warnings. I saw speed limits, but it never gave me lane guidance warnings. I am an hour east of Los Angeles. Maybe too suburban to have it yet? Google Maps gives me all the lane guidance around here though. I wish the speed limit was on all the time, even when NOT using guidance. Or at least as an option to have it on/off. I often drive with the maps on display without guidance.
4. Not related to Maps, but there is a DND while driving mode. When iPhone detects you're in the car, it will not give you any notifications except for people on your VIP list. And people who text you will get an auto-reply that you will get back to them after you get to your destination.
Some screenshots. Sorry about less than great images. I should have just taken a screen shot with the iPhone (power+home button); I totally forgot about that function.
This is in the Full Guidance Mode. The black bar at the top left might be a bug. It stays null. Maybe the guidance should drop down there telling me which way to turn on what road.
When you tap on that black bar, you switch modes from Full Guidance to Light. You get this screen for a few seconds. Since you just switched from Full to Light, it is saying that you can tap there to get back to Full. Likewise, when you click on it again, it says "Tap for light guidance."
This is the Light Guidance Mode. It shows a summary at the top left bar. It's rather redundant since the same info is static at the bottom left.
