Recently, I began receiving a "charging fault" whenever attempting to recharge the car after driving in the rain or visiting a car wash. Previously, this had been an intermittent issue that I experienced only after a heavy rain.

The charging fault was indicated only on the EVSE (charging station), and there were no error codes in the car. I knew that it was an issue with the car because the fault occurred on three different charging stations.

I took my Volt in to have the power inverter module reprogrammed, and also have the recharging problem fixed. The Volt specialist at the dealership had not encountered this error before.

As it turns out, the charge port receptacle had become loosened (although it was not visible to the naked eye), and would subsequently allow water in. In my case, there was also a crack in the back of the housing. The following parts were ordered and delivered the following day:

22975305 drive motor battery charger port receptacle
22879633 charge port door housing

The dealer gave me a very nice 1/2 ton 2014 Chevrolet Silverado to drive as a loaner.

G.M. advised the dealership that this has occurred on other Volts. If it is happening to you, you can have it fixed.

The cost to me was $0.00, and I am pleased with the service I received.

Hi grannyblader,

What is the make and model of your EVSE (charging station)?

my guess is the rain gets into the cracks
Thanks Don, that's what they said.
