It looks like a company is starting to produce consumer-level TEG devices. To me, this could be the equivalent of LEDs for household lighting. These remove the need for Freon type gases and moving parts such as compressors, and they are supposed to be about 25% more energy efficient. They could even play a role in future automotive engineering, especially with the movement toward pure BEVs.

These are supposed to be 25% more energy efficient than equivalent, traditional refrigeration. I guess we'll have to wait until we can see their Energy Star ratings.

There have been some consumer applications already for TECs, as shown wine coolers and travel coolers. e.g.

I've used them, tested them for computer applications, but they're generally grossly inefficient compared to more traditional equipment cooling (air cooling).
The only way I could see these as being usefull is in the case of exhaust heat 12v power or in the case of a simplified heated/cooled seat. For direct contact I could see these as usefull
(when combined with a coolant loop to take away the heat)
