Over the last two weeks my 2017 volt with 8k miles on it has had the infotainment screen go black for a few seconds while driving. The radio and air conditioner were on and stayed on. Everything seemed ok other than the screen going out. After a couple of seconds it turns back on.

Has anyone had this issue? I don't want to take it to the dealership only to have them plug in the odb reader and say everything is ok. But I do want to get the issue documented by Chevrolet.

Thanks
Mike

This has happened twice to me in the last 9 months of owning the car. I'll document it with the dealer at my next visit. This issue also happened in my 2013 Volt and (eventually) they had to replace the unit (twice, actually). It was never an issue after they finally got it right. However, I do worry about the unit going out after the B2B warranty so it's important to document the concern.

A follow-up to this issue. Brought the car to the dealer a few weeks after this post. By that time it was happening every week. Dealer did a full diagnostic but didn't find any faults But he did notice that the USB stick with my music wasn't getting recognize immediately. He said that maybe this could be the issue. A USB stick that isn't compatible with the vehicle. But we both agreed highly unlikely. Well I removed the stick and have not seen the issue for the last eight months. Anyone else have a compatibility issue?
Thanks

Was there anything else on the USB stick other than mp3 files? Maybe the infotainment was tripping over itself trying to read something its not enabled to?

You are correct. I plugged the suspect usb stick into my 2014 Mazda 6 and now the Mazda is acting up. While scrolling through the various "artist" files I found one that was 3 dashes "---" and the songs in that folder also had the 3 dashes. I always reformat my usb sticks, so l am a little confused about what is happening. Could be the permanent firmware file or something corrupted. Anyway the Volt is happy.

It's little tips like this that keeps me reading this forum. Thanks for the update.
Hopefully, it was only a bad USB, but if it returns, do a search on the forum for Display Dead or Mylink Display Dead and you'll see a few threads where others had similar experiences of a dead display but radio still working. It would usually return to normal if car left alone for awhile after parked. Hope the problem stays away.

Thanks for this thread helping me figure out I had a USB drive issue too. I just bought a Volt over the weekend, and the Infotainment system worked great for the first couple days, but had been not starting up properly the last few days. I realized the issue started when I plugged in a USB drive from my previous car, and things started getting odd at startup.

I am not sure if there are bad file(s) on there, or if I just have so many MP3 files that it took a long time to initialize and discover them all, but unplugging the USB drive solved the issue.
