GM is always solid on the battery front. Speeding up testing is a necessary part of battery development. Even running 24/7 it takes too long to test if you have to rely on brute force. Hopefully that's coming along.

Great article! I don't think any manufacture does as much development testing on their batteries. This is just one more example of what appears to be a really solid engineering methodology.

I believe this lab was used to test the Volt battery. One reason I opted for the Volt was a statement by a battery engineer stating that the battery is designed to deliver the stated range (40 miles) at the END of battery life. I took that to mean my range should remain unchanged over the warranty period. My Volt is closing in on six years and so far the range is not changing (except for a 10% hit when I changed tires).
