I have been getting updates on pricing daily on Volt Premier from my local dealer. I got an alert for a fully loaded pearlescent white Premier 2017 for 35,500 (5000.00 discount) from 40,500 sticker. I have done some homework and thought it a good deal so contacted them with questions. When I pressed the sales guy on why the deep discount he finally admitted that the car had an "LR VIN with 2500 miles on it" He said he didn't know if it was Fed/State credit eligible which would add up to 8k in my tax range. Emails went back and forth including one I sent with a new car cost minus tax credits, minus Costco discount of 1500 minus the dealer discount of 1k they were offering resulting in approximately 30k for a NEW car before DLL.
I also pointed it out that all of the daily bulletins I received about this car said it is NEW and that I thought it misleading given that this car is not eligible for the tax credits. My guy brought his concern about misleading advertising to his manager and today offered the car for 28, 995 "plus DLL."
So I need help deciding if this is a good deal. It is exactly the car/options I wanted but I am wary since I can't find out what the used car price discount should be. Also, are there hidden costs with DLL? Do you think 28,995 is a fair price?Did the dealership get the tax credit benefits using it for 2500 miles? How do I look this up? Thanks all. I really, really want one of these cars but don't want to make an unconsidered, emotional purchase...

I would guess that it is still eligible for the tax credit. I don't think most dealers title the car when they use it as a loaner or demo car.
Unfortunately, I'm not sure if there is a way to tell for certain.

Do they have the MSO for the car? If so, you are good to go on the tax credit. Also ask them to run the GMVis report, and see if you can get a CarFax, which may tell you if it's been titled.

I'm a big fan of lease now, buy later at a discount...Even if you don't want to lease, ask them to crunch the lease numbers because they'll do the work for you in determining if the tax credit can be applied...

As far as a deal, I think you could find another brand new Premier at around the same discount...Many have reported $4K off from Fremont/San Jose and there's a thread in the Gen2 right now with folks reporting $6K-$8K off LTs...
