Hello Folks,

Just finished editing and uploading a guide to installing the HD-Link IW03GF for the Chevy Volt. A very special thanks to Scott1620 for his original post and original work here:

I'm not a professional youtuber by any means, but I took my time and attempted to mention anything of importance for the install. Enjoy:

So the Guidelines are a function within HD-Link?

I already have the Factory Rear Camera without lines. More importantly I want to know how you Get Carplay To Work. Is that also a Function within the unit or do you need an add-on device other than your Iphone?

CarPlay with an regular iOS device will be tricky, but mirroring the phone on the OEM head unit should be the easy part. Passing the touch controls through to the phone, or better yet - tricking the phone into thinking that the connected device is a CarPlay compatible device.... that will probably require a jail broken iOS device with the Cydia App Store and the "CarPlay 2.0" app on there.

Android Auto is much simpler. Personally I plan to emulate android on a windows device, sounds like the long way around but I plan to use a 4-wire resistive touch controller (USB) to pass the touch controls through to the mobile device. Windows has a lot more functionality/drivers for this sort of thing. The plus side, I'll see if Cortana can "learn" to be useful in the car. If not, I can have voice recognition or a macro key switch over to the android emulator running Android Auto with "hey google"

Thanks for posting this. I am definitely going to try this out. I see they have the APCAST module to do the mirroring and I might give that a shot. I would love to have Waze be able to be mirrored to the screen in the volt, but I don't know if that is possible on iOS. Worth a shot I suppose, if for nothing other than rear camera. Wife still hates backing up in the Volt. I have gotten used to it, but she drives it so rarely that she struggles.

If you're not trying to record the process at the same time, installing the backup camera is not terribly difficult. The HD-Link IW03GF opens up a lot of interesting possibilities for connectivity, mirroring, etc. I just spoke with their Tech Support through skype this morning - they respond instantly! I'm asking them them to add a camera mirror/flip button to the firmware/software options so that I don't have depend on my camera Flip/mirror option which forces the use of guide lines if enabled.
