Today I read that "GM has sold 2,745 Volts through June 30" and "There are fewer than 100 2011 Volts on dealer lots"; putting these two staements together, it seems that there are fewer than 2,845 2011 Volts in existence. Yet the VIN of my Volt is 3949...what am I missing? Can anyone clarify GM's numbering scheme, or how many 2011 Volts were built?

Thanks!

Michael

Has anyone obtained a volt with a lease with 2.5k down and $350 a month? Here in Texas its not possible. I've been to two dealerships and the lease is a nightmare. Very disappointed with the lease program or lack of one!

Units going to utilities and police dept too.
I would have thought those would be considered sold units since I am sure they didn't get them for free.

@mja1962,

There are quite a few 2011 Volts that belong to a fleet.

Hi everyone,

This is Doug Wernert from the Volt team. Hope I can help clarify:

Our Detroit-Hamtramck plant builit 3,975 2011 Chevrolet Volts since start of production in November 2010. To date, nearly 3,200 have been sold to customers through Chevrolet dealerships, roughly 550 were delivered to dealers as demo units and about 150 held for internal purposes (marketing and engineering). The remaining units are still available for sale. The 2,745 number you may have read are for the 2011 calendar year, not the model year.

One note: the Volt's delivered to utilities throughout the United States are refurbished pre-production units and total sales to fleets were fewer than 200.

Thanks!

Mine was number 3960. Almost the last one built and the highest number I have seen so far. Makes me wonder were the last ones went.

This should be calendar year numbers (Jan1-June30). So, IMO, doesn't include VINs from 2010 end of year sales. And Demo units, etc.

Ikeman this is a problem with Texas not GM. The $350 payment is excluding state sales tax and Texas is the worst they charge sales tax on the MSRP of the car. I have a leased volt and the payment is $418 which also included $695 of options ($695/36 = $19) + $1800 for NY state taxes.

I took delivery in April from Wood Chev in Denton.
I used the lease program @$347/mo for 36 months
I paid the $2500 + closing + cost of options over base vehicle.
The extra cost of options could have been "included" in the lease but that would have increased monthly costs.

I bought my Volt in San Diego, from City Chevrolet with the $2,500 down and $350 a month lease option. But, I also chose some option packages that raised my monthly payment. But, remember, like all leases the $350 a month does not include "tax, title, license fees, etc." So, no matter what you payment isn't $350 but $350 plus fees.

So 125 or so of the first production run of Volts are out there and available to be adopted by a caring driver.

So, if we know who bought the first 2011 MY (VIN #003), who bought or has the last one?
If someone know, post it here since that is a historical number.

Soon, someone will post who has the VIN #0001 for the 2012 MY.

@ Rusty,

The 10th character in the 2012 Volt's VIN will be a C.

Trevor, that is common knowledge/standard it seems. Rusty asked about the production number.

@ scottf200,

Oops my bad, I misread the question. I have to imagine it will start back at 1, but I will look into that and get back with you.
