I'm strongly considering purchasing a used Volt, probably a '14 or '15. I've seen comments that the Navigation isn't worth the price, but used cars with nav are much cheaper than if I were to add it to a new car.

For those of you with Nav, how is it? I currently use a Garmin as I like it separate from my phone. I've never used built-in nav.

Thanks!

Hello!

The Gen 1 nav system is great! I really love using the voice command, and you can say the entire address, city, state and all and it will bring up the route. I believe it's called "one shot" address entry.

The routes themselves seem similar to google maps, the map view is very clear and I like how you can get the small nav screen showing upcoming turns in the screen where your speed / range is.

Also the voice prompts are fantastic. Probably one of the best sounded computer generated nav voices. Think Siri but better.

I have no complaints with my nav as far as doing what it was designed to do. The one aspect I don't much care for which is not Volt specific is the inability to put in an address when the car is in motion using the screen. I completely understand this is a safety feature, but having that ability with a passenger present would be ideal. Even using the passenger airbag sensor to unlock the system for input while in operation (it detects a passenger which allows the system to unlock to put in the destination). I do also like the ability to send a destination to the unit through the onstar app. I do however wish it integrated google maps to also allow you to send destination from your mobile device since any web search generally defaults to the google map if using android.

It's handy, but not as good as waze. I end up using both quite often.
in my area,,every waze user ends up on the same road and stuck in traffic again.headbang.

I wouldn't pay extra just to get the Nav. My car has it because it has other options I wanted and it was heavily discounted. It's very costly to update the map data also. I use Waze on my phone all the time. It's free with almost real-time traffic. Plus it's map is always up-to-date. Recently, I've been trying out Apple CarPlay on a loaner car. It's really nice if you have an iPhone. However, Gen1 Volt doesn't have that feature. If I don't use a smartphone, I would just get a Garmin with lifetime map update and I'm all set.

I think there are other things that come with a Volt with Navigation that you dont get with a Volt without it. So if you have a choice get it for that.

I hardly ever use it anymore since I use Google maps exclusive which is always up to date on my phone.

With Android Auto, I find the built-in Nav to be all but worthless in comparison...

I've been impressed with the Nav system in both the gen 1 and 2. It's the best car nav system I've used. While your phone interface is quicker and easier due to not having a lockout while moving "feature," the car's nav will talk to you through the car speakers no matter what your audio source is.

Thanks, everyone. I'm thinking of pulling the trigger on a 2015 Premium Volt with all of the bells and whistles tomorrow!
Nice! You will enjoy the car! My car has been sitting at the dealership for more than 2 weeks waiting for parts. Even with a brand new 2017 Cruze loaner, I miss my Volt every day!!!
