We get constantly bombarded with rumors that none of the ICE automakers know even a little about EVs, and they are a decade behind Tesla in technology.

Those rumors are probably getting squashed in the next 18 months.

Tesla is actually at a huge engineering disadvantage. Established automakers have been fighting each other tooth and nail, penny by penny, horsepower by horsepower. In the process they became very good at designing and manufacturing cars.

Tesla isn't just a newcomer, they have no big talent on their team when it comes to automotive design and manufacturing. They haven't had to compete before with other companies.

We will see how it shakes out. Could VW/Audi/Porsche make a better EV than Tesla? Absolutely. Why didn't they? Timing.

I think it all comes down to money. The big boys have big bucks to throw at EV tech, and they have the engineering and manufacturing know how. When the time is right to make money on EVs, they will be right there.

But a different company Musk owns is building a rockets. Therefore, Tesla is able to mass manufacture automobiles better than anyone else...

Tesla has three things going for it
1. Name recognition/ cachet
2. A singular focus on EVs
3. A charging network

Being first to market often puts you at a disadvantage as you are always playing catch up.

EVs are practically tailor-made for twisty hill climbs, and VW's achievement serves as proof.
But was it able to refuel and drive back down? I'm not very often climbing Pike's Peak, so these stunts don't give me much of a practical understanding of what a manufacturer has to offer me.

We shall see. Jaguar is impressing to be sure. GM has more and better tech, but how much benefit are we seeing here?

If they tell us the gen 2 Volt didn't sell I'm going to go ballistic. Dork out the car and then complain you couldn't sell a dorkmobile? How many times are we going to play this game?

Fact is, I've seen more Bolts around here than gen 2 Volts. The only EV I see more of (and a lot more) is the gen 1 Volt.
