Thanks FBB!! It's refreshing to see an upbeat vibrant Volt ad featuring happy owners. The US owners are grumpy bathrobe-clad folks who stop at gas stations for bio-breaks. But enough about me....

Wow, that the best Ad I have ever seen for a Volt! eh :)

Just proves the point its all about divisions in GM. Canada is there own division and hence make their own decisions for marketing ... pretty obvious what the US marketing AKA team zero thinks

Here a bunch more for Team Canada:

they ran the "Farther" spot during the super bowl here in Canada. Really cool feeling seeing it cross the screen!

Makes me want to move to Canada.

The US marketing team for VOLT should all get a pink slip, just buy these ads from Canada and run them, it would save GM a lot of money and the ads would be way better.

Its like GM North America doesnt want to market the car correctly as they are afraid of making their other cars look bad or something.

I was in the parking lot outside a super target and a man in his early thirties came up and complemented my car on how cool it looked.

Run with cool and technology not ordinary boring middle age people at rest stops or being visited by Alien its a car, you need to market it as a car, they got a gem they just need to market it to the people that buy it. People want the latest in drivetrain, performance and speed and do not want to compromise. Thats why the Volt easily beats the leaf or focus electric and even the prius.

Seem like GM has three target groups.

1. Ordinary People
2. People that want Cadillacs
3. People that want Camaro

And GM are afraid of targeting group 2 for the volt, its bizzare.

Those were cool. Snazzy song; hit some great points -- let's get this out of the way ... it can be your only car!

Thanks for sharing. I'll post on FB and point back here.

"Farther" spot was running heavily in early October, just after I had gotten my Volt. I would make my wife watch it every time it came on, even if we were playing back a pvr'd show.

Funny thing is that I wouldn't be surprised if all or most of the footage was 'stock' material GM had of the Volt. Maybe GM Canada uses it to make their own version, that is less costly to produce. Most of the Chevy ads here share some similar footage, and maybe music - all of them work well. But I suspect the US agency would want to spend more money (the more you spend the more you earn as an agency) to animate aliens and show how creatively cleaver they are;)

Just a theory.

If you didn't see it already here is a link to a video Ottawa's Hydro utility produced about their Volt - not Alien production value, but reinforces the positive cool factors about Volt http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=7PjfslxxOvw. A stark contrast to the depressing Volt "Hamtramck" commercial that maked me think GM had to produce the car out on the dirty streets of a slum. Definitely not a Car of the Future vib.

Love my Volt, just wish the people making all the Volt messages understood how to spread our enthusiasm.

Those ads are brilliant! To the point and said simply and clearly. They really should run those ads here...

Taken together they're really very good. Snappy song. One point in a 30 second ad. Nice. Also very low budget.

However, not great Super Bowl material. That's a special case. Then again, Ford didn't run any Super Bowl ads and I suspect they'll still sell their cars and trucks.

Wow. Any one of those ads kills everything that's aired in the U.S. so far. I'd vote to start airing the "Farther" ad now, south of the border. And the others are very good, too.
I assume that with Mark Reuss being President of North America, that includes both Canada and the U.S. You've got one division getting the advertising right. And the large-market division striking out.

I'm sure every amateur consumer thinks they're a marketing genius. But the consensus is pretty strong on this one, and very hard to argue against. There have been hundreds, if not thousands, of posts by people who love the Volt, trying to express that the advertising is completely missing the mark. You've got an incredible product, but the advertising is blowing it. You don't need cute tricks, there are real hard features, benefits, and "cool" that will sell if pitched to the right target audience. We need real clear facts (presented in a clever way) to stick in people's minds, to counter some of the misleading headwinds out there.
There have been dozens of excellent suggestions posted elsewhere on this site. Start a contest among Volt owners to come up with the next commercial, and I guarantee you'd find some home runs. What impact would sharp, concise owner testimonials have? If you want emotion, there is a chord to be struck with taking energy independence into your own hands (with a couple examples of Volt owners who have slashed their gasoline consumption - pick any one of us). All that while getting an unparalleled driving experience. And Dan's opening statement that he read before Congress had a great tone and some really strong points.

I really hope there is a plan out there, just about to hit the streets. Bathroom stops, drive-thrus, and aliens are not cutting it.

So now tell me again why Canadians make good commercials and Americans don't.

WVhybrid
It's because GM want to have Volts exported to Canada?
As the marketing is really so bad/poor/deficient/pointless this helps lower the US sales number, and thus makes
more Volts available for exportation!
Isn't that nice?

Wow, those Canadian commercials are indeed great! Very well done. The Volt runs on domestic power virtually all the time. And at 2 cents/mile, it is unbelievable.
