Update, got Volt to turn off- hold power button for 5 sec without brake pedal depressed- then open door. Closed door pushed power button and Volt booted up- engine light went off- no issues or messages. Apparently the battery was low when I tried to power it up. Then it had a bunch of messages. Realized 12v battery needed to be replaced. The new battery returned the Volt to the same spot as the power up in the morning. Volt had to be shut down to be able to properly initialize. All good now- just a new $225 battery after 4 years 8 months. I will change within 4 years with this one

Glad to hear you got it sorted out. That 12 volt AGM battery is a critical component.
