This hose leaks, connecting to the T joint on the top. Some sort of coolant heater core hose? It's located behind the engine.

My local mechanic says it's over 2 hours labor and he might need to replace that joint as well.

Any thoughts?

I've seen the same thing with the Toyota 2.5L I4 used in the RAV4 and Camry. It's simply a plastic tee and you can often get a metal replacement at auto part stores. Simple to replace if you can get to it. Here's a replacement from Advance Auto--I don't know if it's the correct size:
