Hi everyone! I am a Science Instructional Coach in a fairly large sized school district in central Arkansas. I taught for 8 years before landing this job.
This past weekend, I traded in my 2015 BMW M235i on a 2017 Volt LT. My job requires me to travel between schools in my district every day. I average about 30 miles of total driving a day, and the BMW, though a heck of a lot of fun, was getting around 19-20 mpg because of all the stop and go. We also have a Porsche Macan S and an older BMW Z4 (weekend/fun car), so I decided I could 'sacrifice' my awesome little 2 series and get something more sensible that would offset the, frankly, horrible fuel economy of the Porsche.
Originally, I looked into the BMW i3 - yes, I am that big of a BMW fanboy. As garish as the i3's exterior can be to some people, if you haven't driven one you really should. It was a lot of fun to drive! I probably would have gotten one, but I just couldn't come to a reasonable lease payment with any of the dealers within 6 hours of my location.
So I started to look at other EV options. I really couldn't bring myself to seriously consider the Leaf, because good night that exterior! Since I live in a southern state that car companies offering EVs don't really pay much attention to, my options were limited. That brought me to the Volt. I will say, I've never been a big GM fan. I have never really enjoyed their styling cues or anything. However, the changes that GM has made in the last couple of years have, in my opinion, really done a great service to the company.
I reached out to several local dealers, and after one rather unpleasant experience, I ended up at a different dealer this past Saturday and drove home my new silver LT with leather and Comfort (Convenience?) package.
I am very impressed with this car! I am so unused to the sound, or lack thereof. It's so comfortable and relaxing to drive compared to what I'm used to. I love Apple CarPlay (not even an option on the i3!) and the various info screens in the car. Today was the first day I drove it to my office at school, a trip a little over 17 miles from my house, and my EV range changed from 48 predicted miles, to 46 predicted miles!
I just purchased a Level 2 charger by Siemens and will have it installed later this week.
I look forward to many enjoyable miles out of this car over the next 39 months. Thanks for reading!
